Until 2018, the event was organised at the Kołobrzeg amphitheatre, while in 2019 it was moved to the grounds of the Kołobrzeg-Bagicz airportlocated in the Podczele district. The space of the airport is almost four times bigger than that of the Kołobrzeg amphitheatre, which allowed the organisers to spread as many as five stages.

Sunrise Festival is a forerunner of this kind of music events in Poland. The roots of the event date back to 1999, and so far the event under the name Sunrise Festival has already been held 18 times. Sunrise Festival 2023 will therefore be the 19th edition of the festival. In 2020, the event, due to the pandemic, was cancelled. However, an online version of the event took place, featuring Polish DJs known from previous editions. In 2021, for the second year in a row, the event did not take place, due to restrictions imposed due to the pandemic. As of 2022, the event is being revived.
